Idea Test

How you can use Ideally to test ideas or concepts.

Updated over 3 months ago

What is an Idea Test?

Ideally is a research platform purpose-built for innovation and creativity, designed to help brands and businesses quickly test new concepts, ideas, and messages with their target audience. By leveraging researcher-built generative AI, Ideally lets you gather direct feedback from real consumers, enabling you to refine and validate your ideas throughout the development process.

Instead of waiting until the later stages of product development, you can involve customers from the start. This early engagement helps uncover valuable insights to guide your decision-making and ensures that your ideas evolve with consumer input, boosting their chances of success once they hit the market.

Introducing the Idea Test

The Idea Test is a core framework on the Ideally platform, specifically designed to evaluate how new concepts and products resonate with your audience. We measure a range of key metrics, including:

  • Desire: How appealing is this idea?

  • Distinctiveness: How unique is it within its category?

  • Purchase intent: Would someone buy it at a reasonable price?

  • Brand fit: Does it align with the brand’s image and values?

  • Open ended: What do people like about this idea? (Free-text responses)

Why we use these metrics

By combining these metrics with your internal feasibility discussions, you gain a comprehensive understanding of:

  • Market differentiation: How well your concept stands out.

  • Likelihood of success: How likely consumers are to engage with or purchase your product.

This depth of insight helps you assess the commercial potential of new ideas and concepts more accurately.

Profiling and additional questions

Each Idea Test includes a profiling question of your choice. Along with our standard demographic data (see Demographics Overview), this allows you to filter your results and gain more targeted insights. You can also add extra questions for further clarification or exploration at a cost of 1 credit per additional question.

Costs

  • 2 credits per concept (includes one profiling question)

  • 1 credit per additional question

Idea Test vs. Message Test

Not sure which is best for you? The Idea Test focuses on evaluating new concepts, products, or early-stage innovations, while the Message Test centres on assessing how well specific communication resonates.
