Audience Templates

How to set up and reuse audience templates, so every test reaches the right people.

Audiences let you choose exactly who Ideally surveys. Instead of testing with the general population and filtering down afterwards, you set your audience upfront and we target them directly when your test goes to field.

Every audience is tied to a category. Respondents are screened for category involvement before they enter your survey, so your sample is made up of people who actually buy or take part in your category.

Setting up an audience template

Creating a template takes a few minutes:

  1. Pick your category. This automatically adds a category involvement screener question. It's not editable, because it's what qualifies respondents for your category. Don't want it in a particular test? You can switch it off in the audience configuration panel during test setup.

  2. Review your default screener question. We add one to your template as a head start. Keep it as-is, edit it to fit your needs, or delete it entirely. It's yours.

  3. Narrow further if you need to. Add up to two more screener questions. Across all your screeners, you can set targets to control the mix of respondents who qualify to take part in your study.

When you set up a test, you'll simply select your audience template before building your questions. Set a template up once and anyone on your team can use it, study after study, so your results stay comparable.

Default audience templates

No need to build from scratch. Ideally provides default audience templates for every benchmark category, based on frequency, recency or switching propensity. If your brief calls for a tighter group, customise it or create your own.

Incidence rate

When you first create a template, we can't show an incidence rate yet. Once you've used it in a study, we'll show the incidence rate every time after that.

Already have profile questions or Canvas set up?

If you've previously created template profile questions, these have been automatically converted into audience templates.

Your Canvas segmentation questions have also been converted into an audience template. Select it to connect your study to Canvas. One thing to note: you can't add extra screeners to a study that uses your Canvas audience template.
