Ranking Questions

Looking to ask respondents to rank a number of options? Here's why we don't offer ranking questions.

Updated over 2 months ago

Instead of traditional ranking questions, we use “select up to…” options. Here’s why:

  • More meaningful insights: Ranking forces people to order all options, even if they don’t care strongly about some. “Select up to…” lets them choose only their top preferences, producing more authentic feedback.

  • Less respondent fatigue: Ranking a long list can be tedious, potentially leading to rushed or careless responses.

  • Easier interpretation: Without forced ranks, you can clearly see which options stand out rather than deciphering second- or third-tier preferences with questionable meaning.
