Instead of traditional ranking questions, we use “select up to…” options. Here’s why:
More meaningful insights: Ranking forces people to order all options, even if they don’t care strongly about some. “Select up to…” lets them choose only their top preferences, producing more authentic feedback.
Less respondent fatigue: Ranking a long list can be tedious, potentially leading to rushed or careless responses.
Easier interpretation: Without forced ranks, you can clearly see which options stand out rather than deciphering second- or third-tier preferences with questionable meaning.
